Maersk Offshore Wind

Accelerating the rollout of offshore wind farms

A faster turbine installation solution

Our Maersk Wind Installation Vessel concept is 30% more efficient than conventional jack-up vessels. With new technology designed for year-round installation, it uses purpose-built tugs and barges improving port accessibility.

High speed

Our bespoke and highly innovative wind turbine installation method enables significantly faster offshore installations through the use of specialised feeder vessels that lock onto the WIV

Port flexibility

Our use of feeder vessels to marshal turbine components enables broader port access, including smaller, shallower, or floodgated ports, addressing port bottlenecks

Early revenue

Our longer operating window reduces the number of days needed to install the turbines – meaning a faster route to power and revenue generation

A faster route to power generation.

The concept.

Efficiency is key to enabling the high offshore wind ambitions around the world, and to meeting increasing energy demands and sustainability goals. Our installation concept optimises offshore wind installation, reduces costs, and speeds up grid connection.

Pioneering design for high-efficiency installations.

The vessel.

Currently under construction in Singapore, our newbuild Wind Installation Vessel is based on pioneering design and patented technology. Our new locking and stabilising mechanism ensures safe and efficient operations in harsh environments, while specialised feeder vessels streamline component transportation and comply with the Jones Act.

Empire Wind 1

Maersk Offshore Wind has been contracted by Equinor to install the wind turbines for Empire Wind 1. This flagship wind farm off the U.S. East Coast will provide 2.1 GW of energy, powering 1 million New York homes.

About us

Maersk Offshore Wind is owned by A.P. Moller Holding, whose purpose is to invest in and build businesses with a positive impact on society. The founder, Arnold Peter Møller, called this ‘Nyttig Virksomhed’, and this has been at the heart of the company for generations.

A legacy in safety and excellence

Originally developed in-house at Maersk Supply Service, Maersk Offshore Wind builds on a long legacy of maritime capabilities, safely operating large offshore assets and delivering complex offshore projects involving large assets. Our people have many years of experience within the wind industry, and also bring a wealth of transferable knowledge from the offshore energy sector more broadly.
